Reese is Tortie of the Week

Our Tortie of the Week is Reese who lives with her owner Laurie in sunny South Carolina.

Reece

Reese has just turned 1, so she has lots of tortitude but is very loving and territorial of Laurie and her son.

Like lots of torties, she likes to sit in the window to see what is happening and to chirp at the birds in the sunshine. She also loves to join in with whatever is going on in the house and one of her favorites is to play cars!

Reese has been with Laurie since she was just 8 weeks old so she is very much now one of the family.

Thanks to Laurie for sharing details of Reese and look out for her picture on our X, Facebook and Instagram pages. You can also check out tortie videos on our You Tube channel.

Tortie of the Week will be taking a break next week for the summer holidays but look out for next Tortie of the Week in 2 weeks time! Email us at [email protected] if you would like your cat to be featured here.

Rare Male Tortie Born in Oregon!

Did you see that a very rare male intersex tortoiseshell cat called Cinder has been born in Oregon?

Male tortoiseshell cats are considered very rare as the gene which controls the orange and black fur color is found on the female X Chromosome. Female cats have two X Chromosomes while male cats have one X and one Y.

Cinder

Male tortoiseshell kittens are born with an extra X Chromosome, giving them the XXY chromosome pattern and the stunning tortoiseshell appearance. The odds on a tortie cat being a male are around 3,000 to one!
