Penny is Tortie of the Week

She is a 'Shop Cat' who lives in the desert

Penny is Tortie of the Week

Our Tortie of the Week is Penny, a ‘Shop Cat’ who lives with her owner Ramona and her husband in Arizona.

She is known as a Shop Cat because when Ramona’s husband remodeled their shop space with a new air conditioner in 2023, he allowed one third of the space to be used as a large area where Ramona could foster cats or kittens.

Penny

Penny had been found as a stray and turned into the Pima Animal Care Center in Tuscon. She hated being in a cage. Volunteers decided to give her a large space with a window.

They felt she needed more time in a foster home since she wasn’t doing well in the shelter. Ramona brought her home on a Friday and by Sunday she was in her husband’s lap. She wasn’t difficult at all, although she definitely has a streak of tortitude.

They have decided not to introduce her to their two in house cats. Murray is 15, a tuxedo and is a bully. He gets into kerfuffles with Teddy, their three year old fluffy orange and white. Ramona doesn’t think Penny and Murray would get along!

Ramona lives in the desert so none of their cats go outside, they don’t want to. Penny will sit in her lap outside on the glider and seems to enjoy hearing the birds and feeling the fresh air.

She’ll let Ramona know when she wants to go back to the shop. She likes to sit next to them when they watch TV or to supervise her husband’s shop projects. She looks forward to her dehydrated chicken treats she gets every night.
