How to make it a special occasion

Celebrating Your Cat’s Birthday (or Gotcha Day)

Your tortie is no doubt a special and much loved member of the family, so when their birthday or ‘gotcha day’ comes around they deserve the royal treatment!
Here are some fun and meaningful ways to celebrate your tortie’s big day:
Throw a Tortie Themed Party
Even if it’s just for you and your cat, a little party atmosphere makes the day feel festive. Pick up a cat-safe birthday hat, decorate with tortoiseshell-inspired colors (think warm oranges, deep browns, and striking blacks), and set up a cozy spot for your star to louger while you snap photos.
Bake (or Buy) a Special Treat
Cats can’t enjoy cake the way we do, but there are pet bakeries and recipes designed just for them. A tuna “cupcake” topped with a dollop of pureed pumpkin or salmon pâté makes for a tasty, healthy celebration treat. Just be sure to check that all ingredients are safe for cats - no onions, garlic, or added sugar.

Gift a New Toy or Cozy Bed
Torties are known for their bold personalities, often called “tortitude”, so toys that let them stalk, chase, and pounce will be a hit. Feather wands, puzzle feeders, and catnip mice are always winners. Or, if your tortie prefers lounging, a plush bed or heated mat might be the perfect gift.
Schedule Extra Quality Time’
Sometimes the best gift is simply your attention. Spend extra minutes brushing their fur, engaging in play sessions, or cuddling (on their terms, of course). These shared moments will remind your tortie how loved and cherished they are.
Capture the Memories
Take plenty of photos or videos to mark the occasion - you’ll love looking back at them in years to come. Consider making a scrapbook or posting a celebratory post on your favourite cat lover community (Tortie Catz of course!). Fellow tortie enthusiasts will love it!
Give a little back
One heartfelt way to celebrate is by helping other cats. You might donate to a local shelter, sponsor a cat in need, or drop off food and supplies. It’s a beautiful tribute to your own cat’s special day.

Myth: Pet insurance isn’t worth the money
Did you know that one pet health emergency can cost up to $10,000? That could put a huge strain on your savings or even force you to max out your credit cards. Protect your budget and your pet by thinking ahead and choosing a plan that works for both of you.
